Healthy Foods are Trending and Making Travel Wellness Simpler

Travel is a time to escape life’s pressures and just let loose but it is not the time to completely disregard nutrition for several reasons. Healthy foods work with your body to help ward off sickness. Energy-giving fare will help you maneuver particularly fun-filled days. Consuming healthy grub while eating out or on the go can prove challenging but thankfully some new food trends can help you keep your health on track.

2020 Food Trends to Watch

GUT-HEALTHY FERMENTS TAKE CENTER STAGE

Foods that promote gut health can go a long way to help you maintain your overall well-being. Probiotic-rich fare is said to also help maintain weight. Good news for all those vacation pictures.

On the go – When packing your bag for a road trip, include foods like yogurt and kombucha for nutrient-rich and tasty snacks.

Eating out – Miso, often found in Japanese cuisine, is an excellent ferment option. Salty and satisfying, it is a great ingredient to look for when eating out. Sauerkraut is also a probiotic rich ferment that works hard to keep your gut bacteria in check.

FRESH IS BEST – FIBER FOR THE WIN!

When traveling, it can be tricky to come up with fresh ideas to consume produce.

On the go – Packing fresh fruits and veggies is a simple way to bring them along. Choose produce that is unusual or special for the trip. Star fruit, blackberries, and fresh peaches are great treats! If you are traveling by car during the correct season, you can up your fresh game and stop at produce stands along the way. Support local, learn about the area you are visiting, and try something new!

Eating out – Salad, Salad, Salad is always the best way to maximize your veggie intake when eating out. Fresh stir fry can also be a filling and nutrient-rich option if it is not overprocessed. If it’s cold out, vegetable soup is comforting and satisfying.

CAN YOU PLEASE PASS THE CHICKPEAS?

The growing trend of plant-based proteins is pushing meat-free alternatives into some of the most unexpected places like hamburger chains. Because of this, it is relatively easy to find plant-based protein snack and meal options.

On the go – Treat your crew to some yummy Hummus and veggies. Hummus flavors range from traditional to pico de gallo and beyond! There is an option for just about everyone. For a fun snack, replace cheese puffs with dried chickpea snacks for the win!

Eating out – Even if you are stopping at a fast-food restaurant, you will likely be able to order a meat-free burger. If you’re at a Hispanic restaurant, rice and beans are a complete protein. Oriental options often include a choice of tofu instead of meat.

UNLIMITED LIBATIONS

Once a source of mockery, mocktails have moved up to trendsetter. Guilt-free libations including low-proof and zero-proof cocktails are a treat to be enjoyed during family vacation.

On the go -A nice zero-proof mocktail seltzer on the plane is a great way to enjoy a drink and stay tuned in to the family.

Eating out – Once dubbed “near beer”, hop flavored drinks are typically zero or low proof and they satisfy that desire for a brew during family time.

If beer is not for you, consider ordering a sparkling water with a splash of juice for a festive, yet tasty concoction.

Taking your family on vacation while eating healthy has never been simpler or tastier! Pack your bags, fill the cooler, and choose your restaurants wisely and you will go far toward a vacation full of memorable moments fully lived.
